AtoB says Geotab is the first fleet management platform to build its payments platform into its own software.

The Geotab Fleet Card, which Geotab launched the week before, runs on AtoB’s payments platform. AtoB announced on October 8, 2026, that its card issuance, spend controls and fuel discount network now operate natively inside Geotab, and that every fuel purchase is checked against the vehicle’s own data before it is approved. The card is available to eligible U.S. fleets on the Geotab platform.

What each party does

The release splits the work clearly. Geotab supplies the vehicle data (location, fuel level and the fleet’s own rules) and the authorization logic that acts on it. AtoB supplies the card program, spend controls, discount network and the payment rails behind them. AtoB and its issuing bank partners operate the card program.

Geotab’s product page names the issuer: the Geotab Fleet Card is issued by Celtic Bank pursuant to a license from Mastercard International Incorporated. The page also states that Geotab is not a bank and does not extend credit directly. That is the standard split in an embedded card program: a software platform owns the customer and the data, a program manager runs the card, and a bank holds the BIN. Our guide to bin sponsorship covers how that bank role works.

How a purchase is approved

According to AtoB, a fuel purchase is declined in the moment if the vehicle is not at the pump or the tank does not have room for it. A legitimate purchase clears, at a discounted price at stations in AtoB’s network. Non-fuel spend such as maintenance, towing and tolls follows the same rules, set by category, amount, time and location.

Geotab’s page adds the operating details: the card runs on open-loop Mastercard rails, is managed inside MyGeotab, virtual cards are issued immediately and physical cards arrive in three to five days.

“Fuel is the first thing a fleet platform should control at the point of purchase. It won’t be the last,” said Jacob Thomas, Vice President of Partnerships at AtoB.

“Fuel is a major operating expense, and fleets need more than a monthly statement to manage it effectively,” said Steven Berube, Vice President, Sales at Geotab.

Why it matters

AtoB already integrated with fleet management systems so fleets could see spend next to vehicle activity. Here the card itself lives inside the telematics product, and AtoB calls it the first card it has built this way. For card programs, telematics data becomes an authorization input rather than a report. Our guide to fleet card issuing explains the controls and economics of these programs.
