Where remwm’s data comes from, how each dataset is checked and how often it is refreshed.
This page explains how remwm builds its data: the sponsor-bank enforcement tracker, the provider and sponsor-bank directories, and the facts in our guides and news. We use primary sources only, record the document or page each fact comes from and the date we checked it, and leave a field empty rather than estimate it. When sources disagree, the regulator’s own record wins.
Source hierarchy
- Regulator records: enforcement dockets, registers and bank data from the FDIC, the OCC, the Federal Reserve and state regulators.
- Laws and rules: statutes, regulations and official guidance as published by the issuing body.
- Company documents: a provider’s product documentation, API reference, filings and official announcements.
- Everything else: news reports, analyst notes and third-party lists are leads to check, never the source we cite.
Sponsor-bank enforcement tracker
The enforcement tracker logs bank-level enforcement actions tied to a bank’s fintech, sponsor-bank, program-manager or third-party payment business, from March 2023 onward.
- Sources: FDIC Enforcement Decisions and Orders, OCC Enforcement Action Search, Federal Reserve enforcement actions and state regulators.
- Fields: bank, regulator, document type and number, date issued, what the order requires or restricts, status, and the terminating document and date when there is one.
- Inclusion: an action is included when the order’s own text or the regulator’s announcement ties it to third-party, fintech, BaaS or payment relationships.
- Status: “in force” until the regulator publishes a termination; we do not infer a termination from news reports.
- Refresh: weekly.
Sponsor-bank directory
Sponsor-bank profiles take charter, primary federal regulator and FDIC certificate number from FDIC BankFind, enforcement actions from the tracker, and fintech partners only from public announcements by the bank or the fintech. Profiles are refreshed monthly.
Provider directory
Provider profiles record products, client types, regions, partner banks, licences and API documentation as the provider publishes them. Licences come only from official registers. Each profile shows the date checked; profiles are refreshed quarterly. A field the provider does not publish stays empty.
Figures and freshness
Market figures appear only with a named source and date; estimates are labeled. A figure older than 90 days carries a “may be outdated” note until it is checked again.
