Mastercard completed its acquisition of BVNK on August 3, 2026, bringing the stablecoin payments company inside the card network. Mastercard announced the deal on March 17, 2026, for up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in contingent payments. BVNK’s platform sends and receives payments on all major blockchain networks across more than 130 countries, and Mastercard says it will apply it to cross-border B2B payments, payouts, settlement and treasury flows.
What the announcement says
Mastercard’s release states that it “today completed its acquisition of BVNK”. The March announcement set the price “for up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in contingent payments.” Neither release states what triggers the contingent portion.
On reach, Mastercard describes the platform as covering “130+ countries” on all major blockchain networks. The flows it names run “from cross-border B2B payments and payouts to settlement and treasury flows.”
Jorn Lambert, Mastercard’s chief product officer, set the purchase against “a multi-money world where fiat, stablecoins and tokenized deposits” coexist, the company said.
What it means for payment platforms
BVNK is an orchestration layer between stablecoin balances and fiat accounts. Payout vendors, marketplaces and payment service providers that route flows through it now buy from a company owned by a card network. For them, the choice of a payment orchestration provider and the choice of a stablecoin infrastructure vendor now overlap in one supplier.
Mastercard’s release says nothing about pricing, APIs or customer contracts, so no change to those has been announced.
What to watch
- The contingent payments, $300 million of the price named at signing. The releases do not set out the conditions attached to them.
- The four flows Mastercard names for BVNK: cross-border B2B payments, payouts, settlement and treasury. The release gives no timeline for them.
